There is a world where the shadows do not set with the rising sun and do not escape the falling tide on feet that are bolted against walls, forever.

Exploding like bombs.

This place should not exist. But like a scar that refuses to heal, it remains.

There is a place where newborns are testament to the sins of their grandfathers and the sins of grandfathers an ocean away. Like the last breaths their bodies breathed before an absolutely ultimate destruction, they linger.

I know a man who was there, who saw fireworks the night a bright light lit up a dimmer city with its contrast. Saw the planes circle 'round and 'round it again, avoiding clouds like traffic and the ground like destiny.

I knew a woman who was on that ground, sealed in a fate by which there are no condolences strong enough, nor apologies good enough.

I know a kid who lives there today, who plays by the parks where the shadows are idle reminders of a day that's long since past and yet exists in the present, remaining. Where questions are vices treated like ugliness in the face of truth. And where there are no answers good enough.
